# Backups

Keep a copy of your plans and progress, and restore it.

## Your profile backup

A profile backup holds **your** plans, progress, Log, favourites and settings: everything in your [profile](/myfitnessplan/user-guide/profiles.md), and only yours. Your AI key is never included. Your video files aren't included either; they stay in your video folder.

Find it in **Settings → My profile → Backup**.

### Automatic backups

* **Automatic backup:** **Off**, **Every day**, or every 3, 7 or 14 days.
* **Keep:** the last 5, 10 or 30 backups. Older ones are deleted.
* **Folder:** where they're saved. **Choose…** picks a folder (a cloud-synced folder works well), and **Use the app's folder** goes back to the default.

Then click **Save** in the bar at the bottom. The section shows when the last backup was made and how many are in the folder.

### Back up now

**Back up now** saves one straight away, into the same folder.

On a phone or tablet the buttons say **Back up on the computer** (that's where the folder is), and **Download to this device** saves a copy on the phone itself.

## Restoring

**Into your profile:** **Settings → My profile → Restore from backup…**, then choose the backup file. You'll see what's in it (date, plans, Log entries). Type **confirm** and click **Restore**. It **replaces** your current plans, progress and Log; the app then reloads with the restored data.

**As a new profile:** on **Who's training?** → **Add profile**, you can restore a backup as a new profile. That's how you move to a new computer, or bring someone's data back.

## Everything at once

The desktop app's **menu-bar / tray icon → Back Up Everything…** copies the whole app (every profile, thumbnails, plan covers and photos) into a dated folder.

## Plan files

Separately from backups, any single plan can be saved to a file: **⋯ → Back up plan**, or **Back up all** on the Plans page. See [Plans → Importing and exporting](/myfitnessplan/user-guide/plans-and-the-plan-builder.md#importing-and-exporting-plans).

## Where the app keeps its data

| | Folder |
| ------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| macOS | `~/Library/Application Support/MyFitnessPlan/data` |
| Windows | `%APPDATA%\MyFitnessPlan\data` |
