# Phones, Tablets and TV

Train from a phone, a tablet or the TV on your home Wi-Fi.

HomeWorkoutHero runs on your computer, but you can train from any screen in the house: open it on a phone or tablet in the browser, or on a TV with the Android TV / Fire TV app. Your plans, videos and progress all stay on the computer.

## 1. Share it on your home network

Sharing is **off** until you turn it on. Turn it on in the desktop app, either way:

* **Settings → Devices → Share on your home network → On**, or
* the **HomeWorkoutHero icon in the menu bar** (macOS) or **system tray** (Windows) → **Share on Local Network**.

The setting is remembered between launches, and the address stays the same, so you can bookmark it.

{% hint style="warning" %}
While sharing is on there's **no password**: anyone on the same Wi-Fi who knows the address can open the app. Give your profile a [PIN](/homeworkouthero/user-guide/profiles.md#pin) if that matters.
{% endhint %}

## 2. Phone or tablet

On **Settings → Devices**, scan the **QR code** with the phone's camera, or type the address shown (like `http://192.168.1.24:7777`) into Safari or Chrome. The phone must be on the **same Wi-Fi** as the computer.

* **On iPhone/iPad:** in Safari, **Share → Add to Home Screen** gives HomeWorkoutHero its own icon and opens it like an app.
* The layout adapts to the screen: a bottom tab bar on a phone, everything in reach on a tablet.
* Pick your profile the first time; the device remembers it.

**Video playback.** Videos the device can play as they are play **directly** from the file, in full quality with instant jumping, which covers almost every ordinary MP4. Files the device can't open (an MKV or AC-3 sound on an iPad, for example) are **converted while they play**, and only the part that needs it. The player shows which is happening (**Direct play** / **Converting**).

{% hint style="info" %}
Backups made from a phone are saved on the computer. Use **Download to this device** in Settings → My profile if you want a copy on the phone too. See [Backups](/homeworkouthero/user-guide/backups.md).
{% endhint %}

## 3. TV (Android TV and Fire TV)

The **HomeWorkoutHero TV app** shows the app on your TV, driven entirely by the remote: arrow keys, OK and Back.

1. Turn on sharing (step 1).
2. Install the TV app on your Android TV or Fire TV. It isn't in the Play Store or Amazon Appstore, so you install it as an APK file ("sideloading"): turn on installing apps from unknown sources in the TV's developer options, then install the APK, for example with the *Downloader* app on Fire TV or `adb install` from a computer.
3. Open the app. It **finds HomeWorkoutHero on your computer by itself**. If it doesn't, type the address shown under **TV** in Settings → Devices with the remote.
4. Pick your profile and enter your PIN with the remote.

On the TV you can browse your plans and library and train with a full-screen player built for the remote: next and previous video, loop and rest, and the remote's media buttons. YouTube videos play inside the app too. Building and editing plans, folder settings and adding profiles stay on the computer.

{% hint style="info" %}
Already have the **MyFitnessPlan** TV app? It keeps working with HomeWorkoutHero. Installing the new TV app updates it in place and keeps the computer's address.
{% endhint %}

## Troubleshooting

* **The phone can't open the address:** check that sharing is on, that both are on the same Wi-Fi (not a guest network), and that the computer isn't asleep. A firewall on the computer may ask you to allow HomeWorkoutHero the first time.
* **The TV app can't find the computer:** type the address shown under **TV** in Settings → Devices.
