# Getting Started

From download to your first workout in about five minutes.

## 1. Install the app

Download the latest version from the [**Releases page**](https://github.com/Klodizaur/HomeWorkoutHero/releases) or [**homeworkouthero.com**](https://homeworkouthero.com). You don't need Node.js, npm or a terminal to use it.

### macOS

1. Download the `.dmg` and open it.
2. Drag **HomeWorkoutHero** into **Applications**.

The app isn't code-signed yet, so the first time you open it, macOS says it **"is damaged and should be moved to the Trash"**. It isn't damaged. Open **Terminal** and run:

```bash
xattr -cr "/Applications/HomeWorkoutHero.app"
```

That's a one-time step: from then on, open HomeWorkoutHero from Applications like any other app. (Instead of the command, you can also **right-click (or Control-click) the app → Open** and confirm the dialog.)

If you later download a new version, do it once more for the new copy.

{% hint style="info" %}
Updating from **MyFitnessPlan** (the app's name up to 2.2.0)? Install HomeWorkoutHero as above: it opens on all your existing plans and progress. Then you can delete the old **MyFitnessPlan** app from Applications.
{% endhint %}

### Windows

1. Download the `.exe` and run it.
2. If you see **"Windows protected your PC"**, click **More info → Run anyway**. It appears because the installer isn't code-signed yet.

## 2. Set up your profile

The first time you open HomeWorkoutHero, it asks you to set up your profile:

* **Name:** what you'd like to be called.
* **Picture:** one of six illustrated avatars, or your own photo (the camera button).
* **Colour theme:** eight to choose from. Tap one to preview it.
* **Protect with a PIN** *(optional)*: a four-digit PIN keeps your profile to yourself if other people use the app.
* **EN / PL** in the corner switches the language.

Then click **Continue to your videos**. You can also click **Skip for now** and change all of this later in **Settings**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Several people training at home? Each person can have their own profile, with their own plans, progress and settings. See [Profiles](/homeworkouthero/user-guide/profiles.md).
{% endhint %}

## 3. Add your workout videos

**Continue to your videos** takes you to **Settings → Workouts**.

1. In **Video Library Path**, enter the full path of the folder where your workout videos are, for example:
   * macOS: `/Users/yourname/Movies/Workouts`
   * Windows: `C:\Users\yourname\Videos\Workouts`
2. Click **Scan**. HomeWorkoutHero finds the videos in that folder and its subfolders and makes a thumbnail for each.

![Settings – Workouts](https://832542023-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FjUdDjJmApNQZTPNxTsyE%2Fuploads%2F6vGUvg3SVfNIc77eMxZn%2Fsettings_workouts.png?alt=media)

Subfolders become folders in your **Library**, so organising your videos into folders (Cardio, Strength, Yoga…) is worth it. Your videos stay where they are: nothing is copied or uploaded.

{% hint style="info" %}
Don't have the videos on your computer? You can also [import a YouTube playlist](/homeworkouthero/user-guide/youtube-playlists.md).
{% endhint %}

## 4. Make your first plan

Go to **Plans**. There are three ways to get a plan:

| Option                         | How                                                                                                                       | Good for                                                                                    |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Build Your Own Plan** | Name it, choose a category and a workout rhythm, then fill each day from your library. | Most people. Full control. |
| **Import → CSV/TSV** | Import a spreadsheet that lists the workouts day by day. | Plans you already keep in Excel or Google Sheets. |
| **Build with AI** *(optional)* | Describe what you want; it drafts a plan from your own videos. The button appears once AI is set up in **Settings → AI**. | A quick first draft. See [AI Plan Builder](/homeworkouthero/user-guide/ai-plan-builder.md). |

In the player:

* A day with several videos plays them **one after another**, and the list under the video shows where you are.
* Click **Loop** to repeat a video a few times with a rest in between. ([watch how](/homeworkouthero/user-guide/player.md#looping-a-video-with-rest))
* When you finish a part, click **Mark part done**. It's ticked off in your plan and recorded in your **Log**.
